As of Spring 2003
Update for the Masotto's of Buena Park:
Hello to all our family and friends. Happy Easter! Can you believe how fast this year is sailing by! Wasn't it just Christmas? Anyway, I need to update our family web page at the request of all of the children. Especially the oldest one Rob, so, I'll start with him.
Rob is still living out in Springfield, Missouri. For now he is sharing living space with his Dad, Ken. He still works for UPS and Best Buy. He has a wonderful girlfriend named "Aly", who we met when they came out for a visit recently. She is a beautiful woman and is good for the boy! He enjoys her family and is really at their house more than his own. We sure miss them and hope they can come back soon!
Nick is a freshman at Kennedy High and is enjoying High school. He is a tuba player in Kennedy's award winning marching band. Right now, He's in their drum line competitions and is having fun. He is still in Troop 670 Boy Scouts and is trying to complete all of the requirements for his Eagle rank. We support him in this and see this as great leadership development for his future. Plus, Mom enjoys the campouts and activities with the little sisters. (We have our own tent and gear!)(and now a new motor home, as of May, 2003.)
Briana is 13 and is in 7th grade at Walker Junior High. She is a great student and is enjoying the various classes she attends. She is also playing French horn in the school band and has progressed wonderfully this year. We are hopeful for a solo by next Christmas at midnight mass at St. Pius Church in Buena Park. She is enjoying several new girlfriends who come over to the house to study and hang out. She is also a cadette girl scout in a local troop. They have a great time doing projects and activities. She is blossoming into a beautiful young lady!
Lauren is now 11. She is very active in her schoolwork and outdoor activities. She is also in girl scouts and just finished cookie sales with her sister. Big sales of 420 boxes at Mom's work helped their troop with some of the activities planned for this year. Remember us if you need COOKIES!!! She is in 5th grade and has a gang of girlfriends who enjoy coming over to swim in our pool and spend the night. It's always busy on the weekends at the Masotto house!
Michael continues to be my wonderful husband and father for the last 18 years and I am blessed to have him in my life. He still works for the FAA at Hawthorne Flight Service. He continues to work part-time on his own Web Business, "Daddy-fix-it Web Design" which keeps him busy most of the time. He is an amazing man and I can hardly keep up with him. Recently, we enjoyed a quick turn-around trip to Las Vegas to enjoy seeing a recently found member of the Masotto family get married. Jacqueline Masotto is from Germany and came here to get married to Ahkim, who will take on her name of Masotto. They are a wonderful couple and are planning to move to America in the near future. We enjoyed the trip and their beautiful wedding.
As for me, I continue to get better following major surgery last October 2002. It was a difficult time and I thank all of you who called and came by, as well as kept me in their prayers. I am finally feeling like myself and am getting back my energy again. As for work, I have finally left the operating room scene at LAC-USC Trauma Center. After 18 years, the job was just too back breaking and I realized I just couldn't do it anymore.
Funny how God speaks quietly in your ear and if you listen He'll show you the way. While out on medical leave, a dear friend of mine had a terrible stroke. It devastated her and I stepped in as her "case manager" while she was in various skilled nursing facilities. She is doing well now and living on her own at home with her son. I really enjoyed helping her and making sure the medical system did their job. Of course they didn't like having me there because I wouldn't allow them to get by with anything. Ginny would threaten to call the "bull dog" in to make sure it was done right.
Following my return to work in January, I received a letter for a job interview with the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, Health Facilities Evaluation Department. I placed an application with them the previous year and had forgotten about it. I took the 1st and 2nd interviews and was offered the position within the week. I accepted and began my new career on March 17th, 2003. It is a whole new job and I am enjoying the learning process again. This is where God comes in! I probably would never have taken the interview if I hadn't already done the casework for my friend and enjoyed it so much. God gave me the opportunity to use my skills to help a friend and then "He" opened the door for a new career. Thankfully I was paying attention to "His" directing. This job allows me to inspect skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies, clinics, as well as acute care facilities and observe for violations of the federal and state regulations. It is a perfect position for me, as I know how important it is to keep these facilities on their toes. I will be working closer to home with reasonable hours, holidays and weekends off. I get to keep my years in the county system and carry them over for retirement purposes. I will also be able to continue on with my Bachelors and Masters in Nursing. Keep me in your prayers, as I do all our family and friends.
God Bless all of our family and friends. Please stop by at the Masotto home in Buena Park. We love having you and look forward to each day as a gift filled with blessings.
Love, Denise and Michael
